Great Backyard Bird Count
Feathered Fun for Everyone at Charlotte Nature Museum

Charlotte, NC – Calling all feathered friends and citizen scientists! Join us for a world of fun and and contribute to a nationwide-citizen bird count at Charlotte Nature Museum’s next Creature Feature event Great Backyard Big Count, Saturday, February 13, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is science in action and we need you. Help identify and learn about bird species migrating or overwintering in Charlotte. Enter ‘the field’ for a bird’s eye view on the Museum’s outdoor Paw Paw Nature Trail; and make observations and collect information for the Count. The data you collect helps scientists investigate trends in bird populations, migrations, habitats and more.

Local birding experts including Dr. Rob Bierregaard, conservation biologist, will lead tours to spot winged wonders which may include the Northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis), Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis), Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens),Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) and Black-capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus).

And, don’t miss other avian activities perfect for little chickadees including making bird houses from natural materials, special story time featuring titles ‘Unbeatable Beaks” by Stephen R. Swinburne, and “Why Can’t I Fly?” by Ken brown, and interactive puppet shows.

Also, fly in to the Museum’s Trail’s End Store, sure to get your heart aflutter items include plush Audubon birds that make the perfect ‘pet’ and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Museum’s programming.

Creature Features, presented by Earth Fare and supported by The Guild of Discovery Place and Charlotte nature Museum, are monthly special events and include crafts, puppet shows, storytelling and refreshments. Creature Feature activities are free with Museum admission. Admission: $6 ages two and older, younger-than-two and Members are free. Parking is free.
