Charlotte, NC – Don’t jump out of your skin yet! Reptiles and amphibians aren’t scary; in fact, they have important jobs when it comes to nurturing our ecosystems and balancing the natural world. Learn all about frogs, toads, lizards, snakes, salamanders and more when Charlotte Nature Museum hosts its May Creature Feature: Flippin’ Frogs and Slitherin’ Snakes on Saturday, May 15, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Interact with experts in the field while viewing their live collections and get a closer look at the scaly and shelled friends that call Charlotte Nature Museum home, including “Texas Pete”, the Texas Tortoise (Gopherus berlandieri). Other special cold-blooded guests will include the diamondback terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin), the carpet python (Morelia spilota sp,), the Eastern tiger salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum) and more. Did you know that North Carolina has 37 snake species, and only 6 are venomous? Increase your scales of knowledge as you have a close encounter with a variety of snakes and learn about their habitat, diet and other fun facts.

Slither over to The Naturalist Lab to make your own special snake out of recyclable materials. Don’t miss “Growing Up Wild”, an entertaining puppet show about the beginnings of animal life, and story time that includes the titles “The Hoppameleon”, by Paul Geraghty and “The Mixed-Up Chameleon”, by Eric Carle. Slap snake bracelets, Geckoz stuffed reptiles, squishy frogs and other hoppin’ gifts will be available for sale in Trail’s End Store.

Creature Features, presented by Earth Fare with support from The Guild of Discovery Place and Charlotte Nature Museum, are monthly special events and include crafts, puppet shows, storytelling and refreshments (while supplies last).
