Charlotte, NC – Be a rock star and get ready to show off your shine! Join Charlotte Nature Museum and The Charlotte Gem & Mineral Club for a one-of-a-kind event that celebrates the beauty and magic of rocks, gems and minerals Saturday, June 5, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Did you know that the bricks of your home, the glass in your windows, and almost any other substance that didn’t come from a plant or animal is probably a mineral? Uncover why minerals are magical, rocks rock and crack open the mysteries of geology, paleontology and mineralogy.

Little ones will have the opportunity to observe the splitting of beautiful geodes while polishing their knowledge about the roles that gemstones, rocks and minerals play in science and industry. The whole family also can enjoy sluicing demonstrations, get hands-on with beading, wire wrapping and gem cutting and polishing activities. You can even bring in your own unearthed beauties for identification. Note: Some activities require an additional small fee.

The Charlotte Gem and Mineral Club is a non-profit educational organization for people interested in mineralogy, geology, paleontology and lapidary arts. Their primary purpose is to educate members and the public in these areas. They accomplish this by giving programs, shows and lectures to school children and organizations.
